Abstract	The Maine Educational Assessment (MEA) is the state's measure of student progress in achieving the challenging academic expectations, known as "Learning Results," adopted by the Maine Legislature in 1997. This report of student performance in writing, reading, mathematics, and science and technology provides a status report of student performance that is disaggregated by student and school characteristics. This summary report, together with MEA individual student and subject specific class analysis reports, provides support and guidance as the state continually plans to improve the effectiveness of instructional programs. The following sections are included: (1) Summary of Scores; (2) Summary of Student Participation; (3) English Language Arts Writing Results; (4) English Language Arts Reading Results; (5) Mathematics Results; and (6) Science & Technology Results.
