AbstractThe spring special theme issue of English Heritage's, "Discover Your Heritage," celebrates half a million years of history. The publication contains a poster and timeline (from Boxgrove to the Channel Tunnel) which should be a useful classroom resource. In the center of the issue is a unique pullout aimed at younger students which continues the theme. The issue contains three articles about using historic sites: (1) describes the organization's new education center at Pickering Castle; (2) tells how writer, Anne Curtis, used a local site in Northumberland for a project work involving art, craft, and design; and (3) focuses on wall paintings. The "Streetwise" section, investigates clues to the past that can be found in the streets of any neighborhood, presents photographs of typical area buildings buildings which represent places where popular diversions were viewed or listened to in past days. The summer issue, "Bringing Real Romans to Life on CD" is an English history publication for young people focusing on the introduction of a series of integrated books/CD-ROMs. The first in the series focuses on Roman civilization in Great Britain. The magazine contains articles on Roman civilization in Great Britain and on visiting historic sites. It also offers clues in words and numbers found in local British streets. The autumn issue, "The Art of Primary History," promotes using the historic environment in elementary education. It focuses on using primary sources to understand history. It includes articles on the transport era in Victorian England, design and technology, museum workshops, and an artist residency program. Includes news and reviews. (BT)
