AbstractThis KIDS COUNT data book examines statewide trends in the well-being of New Jersey's children. The report begins with general state facts and trends in child well-being, county composite and quartile rankings for 1994, state composite rankings for the years 1991 through 1994, and state quartile rankings by county for the years 1993 and 1994. The bulk of the report provides data in two forms on a county-by-county basis, including a composite ranking table and a table of trends which compares Kids Count data from 1991 through 1994. Twelve indicators of child well-being include: (1) low birthweight; (2) no prenatal care; (3) infant mortality; (4) AFDC benefits; (5) food stamp benefits; (6) births to teens; (7) child abuse and neglect; (8) child deaths; (9) teen deaths; (10) juvenile arrests; (11) juvenile commitments; and (12) out-of-home placements. The third section of the report provides data on 21 of New Jersey's major cities and their ranking in relation to the state averages in the indicator areas of: (1) low birth weight; (2) no prenatal care; (3) infant mortality; (4) AFDC benefits; (5) food stamp benefits; (6) births to teens; (7) child deaths; and (8) teen death. The report ends with a glossary of terms and definitions. (SD)
