AbstractThis curriculum guide is one of a series automotive service specialty publications that continues students' training in the automotive service trade by providing instruction in the engine performance specialty. It is based on the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence task lists. Each of the 16 units includes some or all of the basic components of a unit of instruction: objective sheet, instructor's guide, information sheets, instructional supplement, assignment sheets, job sheets, written test, answers to assignment sheets and test, transparency masters, learning activity package (LAP) sheets, handouts, and other required media. The instructor's manual contains the following: curriculum and duty/task crosswalk; basic skills documentation matrix; suggested videos; one set per unit of instructor's guide, answers, and test code sheets; and instructional supplement that provides strategies for teaching basic skills. The isntructor's resource package includes one set per unit of LAP sheet and written test, handouts, transparency masters, and other required media. The student workbook consists of objective sheets, information sheets, assignment sheets, and job sheets. Unit topics are as follows: understanding engine fundamentals; servicing starting and charging systems; servicing engine cooling systems; servicing exhaust systems; evaluating engine condition; understanding engine computer controls; and servicing the following systems--ignition, fuel delivery, fuel injection, turbocharger, positive crankcase ventilation, exhaust gas recirculation, air injection, heated air induction, manifold heat control, and fuel vapor control systems.
