| Abstract | This document is the first of a three-volume set made up of bibliographic citations to published texts, unpublished manuscripts, photographs, sound recordings, motion pictures, and maps concerning Native American tribal groups that inhabit, or have traditionally inhabited, northern and central California. Introductory material in this volume includes a directory of libraries where California Indian Library Collections (CILC) are located, a list of tribal groups and corresponding counties in which they have historically resided, alternate names and/or spellings for tribal groups, a list of tribal language groups, maps of California tribal areas, and an introduction to the set. An annotated bibliography of materials appropriate for a basic library collection is included. This is followed by the bibliographies for the following tribal groups: Achomawi, Athapaskan, Atsugewi, Chilula, Chimariko, Huchnom, Hupa, Karuk, Kato, Klamath, Konkow, Lassik, Maidu, Mattole, Miwok, Modoc, Mono, Nisenan, Nomlaki, and Nongatl. Each tribal bibliography contains citations to materials that are tribal specific, along with citations to general materials that contain significant amounts of information on that tribe. (MES) |
