AbstractThe purpose of multicultural career education and development is to foster positive self-concepts and career choices regardless of cultural background, encourage understanding of cultural groups' contributions, and develop effective intercultural communication skills. The attitudes, values, opinions, and beliefs with which a person perceives the world are influenced by cultural heritage and life experiences. Different combinations of Locus of Control and Locus of Responsibility affect the formation of world view, which influences self-concept and career choice. Members of a group have different characteristics; people are a product of gender, ethnicity, and individuality. Another difference is nonverbal communication styles. In the examination of techniques for multicultural career development, a key to effective career education and development for diverse groups is the sensitivity and awareness of educators and counselors. The cross-cultural awareness continuum can help them gauge their growth in intercultural competence. Multicultural career development efforts must focus on both individual competence and external forces. Keys to successful multicultural career development are system commitment, a belief that students can learn and want to learn, and recognition of the worth and dignity of all students.
