Abstract | This paper describes a communication course curriculum for students majoring in elementary education which has been used at Wright State University for 4 years. The paper presents an overview of the topics discussed in the course (topics chosen for their relevance and importance to successful classroom communication): (1) process of human communication; (2) self-perception and communication; (3) speaking skills; (4) storytelling; (5) nonverbal communication in the classroom; (6) motivations to communicate; (7) expectancies in the classroom; (8) listening; (9) communication apprehension; (10) interpersonal communication; and (11) conflict. The paper includes a description of class activities and assignments. Thirty-three references are attached. (RS) |
