| Abstract | This report compares the Oregon Mathematics Comprehension Curriculum Goals (CCG) with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics. After discussing the philosophical positions of the two documents, three sections comparing the two by level are presented. Each standard from the NCTM Standards document and the related content strands of the CCG are listed by number; a rating is provided to indicate how the Oregon goals match the NCTM Standards. This report concludes that the two documents are very similar in philosophy and that they both make a strong case for learning mathematics actively through "doing" mathematics. Topics of the Oregon goals that need to be strengthened are identified. (YP) |
