Abstract | This sourcebook is designed to support the efforts of educators who work with students having learning difficulties in mathematics. As the title suggests, its aim is to effect a good teaching/learning match in order to best meet the individual needs of students. The first chapter, "The Nature of Learning Difficulties in Mathematics," describes factors influencing learning difficulty. The second chapter, "Diagnosis of Students with Special Needs in Mathematics," discusses the diagnostic assessment and collection of diagnostic data. The last chapter, "Instruction for Students with Special Needs in Mathematics," includes topics on translating assessment data to program plans, making curriculum choices, and designing instruction. Forty-six references are listed. Appendices provided are: (1) "Formal Tests"; (2) "Teacher Resource Material"; (3) "Professional Literature"; and (4) "Addresses of Publishers and Distributors."
