Abstract | This syllabus for grade 7 was designed to improve the problem-solving abilities of students while continuing a natural development of mathematical skills and concepts. Seven major strands are provided under the following unit titles: (1) "An Introduction to Problem Solving"; (2) "Number Concepts"; (3) "Ratio, Proportion, and Percent"; (4) "Probability and Statistics"; (5) "Algebra and Coordinate Geometry"; (6) "Computer Awareness"; and (7) "Geometry and Measurement." Following the statement of goals and objectives, a content outline and suggested time allotments are presented. Detailed suggestions to teachers are given for each strand, with background information, learning activities with materials and diagrams, and examples included for each topic on the content outline. Evaluation is considered briefly, and appendices present the Statement of Regents Goals (1984), comments on providing for students with handicapping conditions, and the content outline for grade 8.
