| Abstract | This textbook reviews the principal concerns within each of 13 major responsibility areas in school business administration. The first chapter assesses the political, social, and economic context in which schools function and school administrators work. The role and function of the school business administrator within this context is addressed in the second chapter. The remaining 13 chapters address management techniques, personnel administration, management of purchasing and supplies, budgeting processes and procedures, financial and property accounting, data processing (including selection, installation, and potential uses for data processing capabilities), assessment of school facility needs, management of capital outlay for facilities, the operation and maintenance of the physical plant, pupil transportation, school food services, risk management and insurance, and the dissemination of school-related information both internally and externally. Each chapter lists basic principles affecting operations in the area covered, then discusses each of the principles more fully, describing the relevant administrative tasks and the contribution made by each component of each area of responsibility to the overall educational program. Selected references are listed at the end of each chapter and an index is provided at the end of the book. (PGD) |
