Abstract	Presented are 43 detailed statistical tables containing data on the demographic, educational, and employment characteristics of experienced scientists and engineers. These data were obtained from the 1982 Postcensal Survey of Scientists and Engineers (the third in a decennial series) conducted by the Bureau of the Census. They include data on the total number of scientists and engineers, the number and median annual salary of employed scientists and engineers, and the number of female and Hispanic scientists and engineers by these variables: sex; age; race; highest degree earned; employment status; type of employer; primary work activity; area of critical national interest; federal agency of support; number of years of professional experience; and state of employment. Also included are technical notes (describing the sample design and process and the standard errors for the chosen sample) and a copy of the questionnaire used in the survey. (JN)
