Abstract | This booklet was designed to provide information on secondary school mathematics courses being developed or revised, reinforcing a National Council of Teachers of Mathematics recommendation calling for "a flexible curriculum with a greater range of options." A survey of mathematics supervisors led to the identification of over 450 persons who might be developing new courses; 147 replies were received, of which 74 courses were selected for this publication. Courses are presented in 12 categories: advanced mathematics, algebra, applications, business mathematics, computer mathematics, consumer mathematics, general mathematics, geometry, integrated mathematics, problem solving, statistics, and technical mathematics. For each course, information on 19 points are given: title of course, grade level(s)/length, site, date first taught, students allowed to enroll, why developed, objectives, prerequisites, course it precedes, persons involved in development, materials used, community resources utilized, teaching modes, special teaching skills/experience, number of students enrolled/completing, evaluation or indication of success, changes considered, course outline and topic/time, and contact person. Some sequences of courses are also listed. (MNS) |
