Abstract | Activities for teaching mathematics in kindergarten through grade 8 are included in this guide. Both original ideas and ideas gleaned from various sources, including teachers in the district, are presented. The introduction briefly discusses the importance of developing understanding of concepts, processes, and relationships, the need for interaction and the use of all senses possible in mathematics classes; the role of evaluation; and comments on managing the class. For each activity, the objective and the procedures are included. Activities are grouped by: number and numeration system; addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers; divisibility tests; fractions; mixed numbers; and decimals. Also included are suggestions for teaching the basic facts, a division song, several worksheets, and some additional activities, plus a list of teacher reference materials. (MNS) |
