Abstract | Noting that educators are surrounded by a vast array of communication processes that involve many avenues of expression, this booklet argues that nonverbal communication is an often ignored, but powerful, aid that can be used to enhance the learning environment. Following an introduction to the subject of nonverbal communication, the booklet examines the research concerning the topic and provides suggestions for teaching techniques based on the research. Specific areas of nonverbal communication discussed in the booklet include facial expressions, eyes, vocal intonation, touching, body postures and movements, dress, and use of space. (FL) |
