Abstract | The purpose of the study was to develop and validate a new method for measuring the subjective information of written materials in mathematics. In order to support the theoretical validity of the new measure, the study provided a derivation of the measure from Shannon's original information formula. Then the measure was used to measure the subjective information of a geometry passage for eighty-five seventh-grade students at various times during an instructional sequence in mathematics. The data obtained from these measurements was utilized to test the validity of the measure empirically and to investigate the information processing behaviors of the students. (Author/MN) |
