Abstract | The report documents the results of a national survey of the aviation mechanics' occupation. The study surveyed 151 companies in the four industrial categories of the aviation industry and was concerned only with the certificated airframe and powerplant mechanic. Results of the study provide the following: (1) identification of the technical knowledge and manipulative skill required of the aviation mechanic by the aviation industry; (2) identification of the scope of industry training offered aviation mechanics; (3) correlation of current study with a national study completed in 1970; (4) denotation of teaching standard for aviation mechanics; and (5) establishment of a common core curriculum for aviation maintenance technician schools.
