AbstractThis is one of 15 country studies which together with a final volume of summary and analysis will comprise a comprehensive "Report on the Supply of Secondary Level Teachers in English-Speaking Africa." Each study focuses on determining the likely demand for overseas secondary-level personnel through 1975. Each gives a short description of the country's geographic, economic, and political situation; traces the development of secondary education and makes projections for the future; assesses the present and future supply of secondary level teachers in each field; and draws conclusions as to the resulting demand for expatriate secondary level teachers. A final chapter draws implications and makes recommendations for long-range planning. The West Cameroon study finds that among the states in the series Cameroon, alone, will soon have a surplus of science teachers together with a dearth of art teachers. In general, there will be little need for expatriate teachers after 1975. The greatest hindrance to the production of secondary-level teachers was found to be inadequate and erratic financial support. (Other countries in the series are Botswana, Gambia, Malawi, Lesotho, Swaziland, Liberia, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria.) (RT)
