Abstract | The aim of the longitudinal study was to determine the impact of English lessons in elementary school on learning, English in secondary school. The English lessons were based on integrated educational principles and were intended to prepare the pupils in a playful, but systematic way for lessons in secondary school. 97 children in the fifth and sixth grade (57 boys and 40 girls) were tested to detect differences between children with systematic or non-systematic English experience and those with no previous knowledge. Children with systematic English treatment in elementary school showed a significant margin in the long-term regarding self-assessment in handling the English language, particularly with regard to the willingness to make an effort and the fun associated with English lessons. This margin was also observed to some extent in the achievements of the pupils. (DIPF/Orig.). |
