Abstract | The end of utopia, of which Herbert Marcuse speaks in 1967, means both: the illusory, because false, realization of the "better life" in and as capitalism as well as - therefore - the suspension of a concrete utopia as a dream of a human world. As culture-industrial spectacles, utopian social ideas turn into dystopian visions of the future; social, even socialist fiction becomes mere science fiction. In a world of accumulated crises that threaten humanity, utopia is now missing. To learn to hope again would be - not only pedagogically - necessary the utopian project of "delearning" hopelessness. There is no alternative. (DIPF/Orig.). |
