Abstract | A critical mass of Sport for Development (SfD) programs now operates across the world, with a growing presence in developing and conflict-affected regions. Given the recognition of sport as an 'important enabler of sustainable development' within the United Nations 2030 Agenda, particularly for youth who are identified as a vulnerable population, this trend is expected to continue. This chapter explores SfD programs currently operating during out-of-school time in these regions, with a particular focus on programs identified as particularly effective and innovative. Each SfD program is explored in relation to its history, culture, and context, along with a review of shared best practices. The chapter concludes with a call for SfD programs operating in developing and conflict-affected regions that are intentionally, collaboratively, and reflexively designed, implemented, and evaluated through an evidence-informed, culturally-relevant, and contextually-aware lens.
