| Abstract | To enhance the reputation of teaching in academia, the University of Lübeck has recently begun to take steps towards making excellent teaching visible internally and externally. First, a university-wide teaching award was introduced. Besides gaining individual acknowledgement through the award, the winners also publish their teaching concepts online, thereby creating visibility in the form of a public discourse on their approach and methods. At the same time, a different form of visibility was created by presenting the university-wide teaching award for excellent courses during an important public event in a ceremony. Second, while teaching awards makes the top-of-the-notch teaching visible, the university also strives to introduce a seal of good teaching that sets a standard as to what constitutes good teaching and which will ideally be awarded to most, if not all, courses of the university. Third, in addition to showing good teaching we also need spaces and formats for discussing it face-to-face. We describe different possible forums where such discussions can take place.
