| Abstract | In the centre of this analysis there is the question of national/ trans-national pattern in respect to the cognition and interpretation of the Staufer and the way how the Staufer are visualized in Italian and German schoolbooks for history lessons. By analyzing the visualization of the historiography of a chapter dealing with an historical incident important for both countries one can see convergences and divergences of the national experiences with history, of the culture of remembrance and of historical identities and the way to study it and to compare it. Furthermore this comparative study will show whether or not the same pictures are of the same meaning in schoolbooks in both country in respect to the layout, context and text-image-proportion and if the quality and function - out of a diachronic perspective - is constant in both national historiographies of schoolbooks. In addition to this there is to explain if - and if it is so -, since when and how the pictorial material is building a basic concept for a historical structure of knowledge with identifiable functions for interpretation and how it is used for methodological expertises. |
