| Abstract | The Free University of Bolzano (unibz) is a trilingual University (German, Italian and English), situated in the Italian trilingual autonomous province of South Tyrol (German, Italian and Ladin). As most of the Bachelor and Master curricula offered by the unibz are held in three languages, students are requested to certificate prefixed entrance and exit levels. Also the teaching and administrative staff has to feature high language skills in order to be performing actors of the university language policy. This paper illustrates the unibz's language model and gives an overview of the Language Centre's offer of services. As the language training and acquisition are institutionally divided into a) optional general language courses at the Language Centre, b) compulsory language courses at the faculties and c) content courses in the second or foreign language at the faculties, the paper presents also the challenges the Language Centre has to face in this particular context.
