| Abstract | The aim of this research is the state of physical development of 9-10-year-old children in the beginning of their training in mini-basketball to be determined. The subject of the study covers the initial training in the basketball. Object of the study is the basic signs of the physical development within the age range of 9-10-year old schoolboys practicing basketball in an organised manner. The contingent of the study is 88 boys at the age between 9 and 10 years, entered into preparatory groups in basketball to the "Etar - 49" club in the town of Veliko Tarnovo. The children are divided in two equal groups: experimental and control. In the time of the experimental period the boys from the first group are put to the influence of ours own methods for initial training in the basketball. For accomplishing the objective and the tasks set in the study, the following methods of research are applied: historical study, anthropometry. For the needs of the study the following mathematic-statistic methods are applied: variation analysis, comparative analysis (by t-criterion of the Student) and method of the indexes. Our research displays that at the beginning of this experiment the level of physical development of the two groups are identical which is a guarantee of correctness from the start of the research.
