Abstract	Problems of vulnerability and risk are often analysed spatially using remote sensing data. Geomedia offer a wide range of methods for this purpose, but are not normally recognized in school education. The reasons for this are as follows: teachers ae not taught how to use remote sensing data, nor are there material or software solutions which can be integrated in to school lessons without additional preparation. There is a way out of this predicament, which is to create easy-to-use materials to apply remote sensing methods in schools. This is the main goal of the FIS (Fernerkundung in Schulen - Remote Sensing in Schools) project, a research project funded by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) with financial support from the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. The project's general approach in creating learning materials is to use e-learning methods in order to support learning mechanisms based on moderate constructivist learning theory. The interactive learning unit 'Flood - Dealing with a Constant Thread' is a module for a double lesson that enables students aged 12 to 16 to use geo-data for a site analysis, focusing on the threat of floods. It incorporates different methods which are exemplary for the way different types of e-learning materials are created in FIS lessons. [...
