Abstract | The history of emotions is a fast growing and productive research field. This volume combines some of the newest approaches in this field with paradigms of learning and teaching history. Based on the history of the emotions the contributors are discussing concepts of construction of meaning, empathy, imagination, narrativity, historical culture and consciousness as well as historical identity. The articles focus on theories, basic ideas as well as on sites and media related to encounters with history asking questions such as: in which phase of history learning processes are emotions important? How are they pre-structured and how do they guide encounters with the past? The volume seeks to form a basis for further discussions about emotions in educational settings of learning history as well as in daily life historical culture. The articles share the ambition to inspire and challenge future studies and debates at schools and universities. |
