Abstract | In Germany about 60 000 children live in foster families as their birth parents cannot bring them up adequately for different reasons (Statistisches Bundesamt, 2011). Because of adverse experiences in their birth families as well as attachment break-ups and periods of insecurity during the placement process, many foster children show elevated rates of mental health problems and special caregiving demands (e. g., Minnis et al., 2006). Taking account of this research it appears evident that being foster parents is very challenging (Wilson et al., 2000). (Orig.). |
