| Abstract | The word sacrifice - "Opfer" - refers to a fundamental aspect of life and in doing so the foundation of all religion: i.e. that a life, striving for fulfillment, will not achieve this, and that diversity is the driving force of life. This diversity manifests itself through sacrifice: sacrifice as a broken life - as a life subject to alien powers, lost in it - and, at the same time, as an opportunity to freely discover a new life out of this fragmentation and thus to create room for reconciliation. The tide "Life, Given Away" mirrors this ambiguity of loss and gift. Sacrifice as the driving force of life can be narrated in a variety of stories moving from death to life: this movement is shaped by reflections based on religious studies, theology and philosophy, thereby opening up horizons of experience in various ways. In this process every sacrifice can change suffering of pain into enjoyment of life. |
