Abstract | The EW-Learning project is directed toward the implementation of a Learning Management System to support lectures and courses through on-line and e-learning elements respectively in the Faculty of Education. The multi- and hyper-medial presentation of teaching-learning elements as in this project assumingly provides several advantages and opportunities for lecturers and students alike. Support: Support of self-directed learning by providing additional didactical alternatives for self-study; Individualization: Individualized adaptation of learning speed and learning progress by providing alternative learning paths. Presentation: Learning will be enhanced by a presentation of learning material in different forms (picture, movie, animation, audio, and written text); Timeliness: The project offers the opportunity to provide information and learning material in time and with access to all the resources of the net; Activity: The project requires active learning in working with interactive media like flash animation, hypertext, learning games, self-tests, free style learning units; Communication: Improved learning through communication and social integration of individual learning with the help of the communication and co-operation channels of the learning platform During the first term of the project (winter semester 2005/06) ,10 introductory lectures to education participated in the project by providing material for individualized learning, interactive elements and platforms for communication. A further 15 courses also participated using the Learning Management System. An evaluation by the participants (more than 1000) showed a high level of satisfaction of students and lecturers alike, though seeing room for improvement for wider and stronger use. Therefore, the potential of the Learning Management System for self-directed learning, student-student and student-teacher interaction, and other forms of co-operative learning shall be further explored and expanded to include more lectures and courses in the coming terms. The learning platform can be found on the internet at http://learnweb.uni-muenster.de. (Orig./GS). |
