| Abstract | Sie gilt als profilierteste Bildungspolitikerin, als liberale Konservative und als enge Vertraute der ersten deutschen Bundeskanzlerin. Im Herbst 2005 übernahm Annette Schavan die Leitung des Bundesministeriums für Bildung und Forschung. Sie sieht ihr neues "Haus" in erster Linie als Forschungsministerium. Ihre Schwerpunkte liegen in den Bereichen Forschung, Technologie und Innovation. Anders als von den Kritikern dargestellt, seien sowohl Hochschulsonderprogramme als auch die Förderung einzelner Projekte durch den Bund weiter möglich. (HoF/Text übernommen). The new Federal Minister of Education and Research, Annette Schavan, is seens as one of the most distinguished federal politicians, as a liberal conservative, and as a close confidante Angela Merkel, the first woman Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany. The 50-year-old former Minister of Culture of Baden-Württemberg aims to set her sights on research, technology and innovation. By contrast, the Doctor of Philosophy sees education policy as a core area of responsibility for the federal states and an expression of cultural sovereignty. "We plan to create the perequisites for innovation, rather than try to govern all the way into the schools themselves," says Schavan. In contrast to the view held by critics, both special university programmes as well as federal government funding for individual projedts will continue to be possible. She mentions vocational education, continuing training, and educational research. The Deputy Party Chair of the CDU and Vice-President of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK) is pursuing " a strategy that makes funding possible for the whole value added chain, from basic research through to industrial application." Germany needs to become the motor of European research policy and an "El Dorado" for young talents. In this respects, the minister calls for a change of mentality. It has not yet been understood, she says, that funding excellence is not a luxury for the good times, but is rather of existential importance to our society. (HoF/text adopted). |
