Abstract | Fundraising bringt Geld. Fundraising generates money. But it can do more, and it has to do more to be a success. Its objectives have to go beyond moneymaking in order to make money actually available: Fundraising should give the institution impulses to tackle new tasks, it should create additional potential, and it should promote communication within and outside the institution. Thus it becomes part of the institution's marketing strategy. The University of Mannheim found unorthodox ways to establish a culture of support: They started with a campaign to renovate an ancient building, the Mannheim Castle, which houses parts of the university.
