Abstract | The article analyses the results of Norway in reading literacy performance of the PISA and the IEA surveys [in PISA, Norway was slightly above the mean]. The study aims at understanding the good performance of Norway in these studies and proceeds in three steps. It begins with a description of how and at which grade reading is taught, it then identifies eight factors that may explain the good results of Norway and finally it reveals seven factors associated with lower performance of students. The author then studies recommendations in order to improve the reading litracy performance that either focus on teaching or enxourage the commitmemnt of a larger circle of actors than the teachers: parents, government officials, etc. (DIPF/Orig.) |
