Abstract | The article first describes the special features of Finnish higher education and university extension in Finland. Secondly, it addresses "the adultification of higher education. This is an important factor, since political decision-makers have prioritised the inclusion of mature people in university education. ... A third set of issues is the limiting factors in a country which is relatively well-placed regarding equality of opportunity in education that emanates from the marked significance of social, regional and age-related background in gaining access to university level tuition." The authors focus on this issue in their analysis "dealing with the Open University and other ICT-based solutions and new conceptions of literacy as they apply to Finland." ( DIPF/Orig.) |
