Abstract	In Morocco, the teaching of history and geography is designed to build upon the colonial past and to strengthen social cohesion. The study of history and geography textbooks shows us that ideology has had an influence on the way they are taught. These books accept the existence of a unique Arab/Moslem identity within which different Berber identities are dissolved, in order to unify the multitude of ethnic components making up Moroccan society. The national territory is presented as a grouping of villages and regions and its interpretation is based on a sequence of geographical scales moving from the local to the global, while completely ignoring Africa South of the Sahara. The history textbooks make a mention of internal imbalances, so that Morocco appears as a peaceful country in which the population lives in perfect harmony. (DIPF/orig.).
