Abstract	Surveys carried out in German schools with bilingual streams show that varied techniques and methods are employed in modern foreign language and bilingual courses (geography, history, politics/social science and biology). Methods and techniques from language teaching are combined with techniques for the exploitation of documents and the production of texts specific to the non-language disciplines. Thus, this work requires close coordination between language teaching and subject teaching in the foreign language, while pupils should be also encouraged to work autonomously. It emerges from the surveys that initial training for future bilingual teachers is essential. Recently, a training course of this kind has been organised at the University of Wuppertal and regional teaching practice seminars (Studienseminare). (DIPF/orig.).
