Abstract	In ihrem Bericht präsentiert die Autorin eine Reihe von Untersuchungsergebnissen zur Situation der Kinderarmut in Deutschland und stellt einige Handlungsbereiche zur Bekämpfung der Armut unter Kindern und ihren Familien dar. Die Ausführungen basieren unter anderem auf einer empirischen Studie, in der über drei Jahre die Situation benachteiligter Familien und ihrer (Klein-)Kinder untersucht wurde, und folgt dieser Beobachtung weiter bis zum Zeitpunkt des Kindergartenalters. Im Zuge einer umfassenden Bestandsaufnahme werden die folgenden Aspekte erörtert: (1) ein Konzept der Armut, das sich an der Lebenssituation der Kinder orientiert, (2) Armut in verschiedenen Familienkontexten, (3) Kinder von Migranten, (4) Sozialisation, (5) Kinder- und Jugendwohlfahrtsorganisationen, (6) gesellschaftlicher Kontext der Kinderarmut sowie (7) Armut aus der Sicht eines Kindes. Vor diesem Hintergrund werden (politische) Betätigungsfelder zur Eindämmung dieses Missstandes skizziert. Dazu gehören: (1) die Schaffung sozialer Rahmenbedingungen, (2) die Vereinbarkeit von Familie und Arbeit, (3) eine interkulturelle Öffnung, (4) Prävention als Orientierungsprinzip der Sozialarbeit, (5) Kooperation von Jugendwohlfahrt mit den Aktivitäten der verschiedenen sozialen Arbeitsfelder sowie (6) die Ausweitung von Dienstleistungen für (arme) Kinder. (ICG2). "The Institute for Social Work and Social Education (Institut für Sozialarbeit und Sozialpädagogik e.V., ISS) was established as a legally independent non-profit association in 1991. It is financed by client fees, operating revenues, and subsidies from the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) and the national 'Arbeiterwohlfahrt' Federation (AWO). The ISS offers the following services to public and private social work institutions across Germany: practical research and consultancy, scientific supervision of model projects and new approaches in regular practice, social planning and planning consultancy, organisational development, human resources development and consultancy, management reform, expert opinions and qualification measures. The ISS is committed to modern approaches to social work (orientation to life environments and life situations), and it realises projects primarily in the fields of youth care and family support, work with women, girls and young people, assistance for adults in special life situations, elderly care, nursing care and in the special areas of drugs/addiction and migration. The social report on 'Good childhood - bad childhood. Poverty among children and young people and their opportunities for the future', commissioned by the national Arbeiterwohlfahrt Federation and published by the ISS in 2000, represents a major study conducted on the basis of data gathered in a survey conducted in more than 2,500 youth facilities operated by AWO. The in-depth study on 'Poverty among children of early school age' examines the situation of disadvantaged families and their children over a three-year period and follows up this observation until the children reach kindergarten age. Based on this research and on the examination of other current studies, the present paper will attempt to outline the situation of child poverty in Germany and present a few central areas of activity aimed at combating poverty among children and their families."
