AbstractThe aim of the present report is to describe the current economic conditions and labour market developments in relation to the vocational education and training (VET) system of Turkey: that is, the analysis of macro-economic conditions will basically determine the financial capacity that can be allocated to the system; and the elaboration of the demographic and labour market structure and expected trends will determine the potential demand and curriculum needs of the vocational education and training system. Chapter 1 is an overview of macro-economic developments and demographical trends. Chapter 2 is a detailed analysis of labour market structure and issues. Chapter 3 is a detailed description and analysis of the vocational education and training system. Formal and continuous vocational and technical education is covered in this section of the report. During the preparation of this section, first formal vocational and technical education are examined; then information related to continuous vocational and technical education is given. In order to avoid duplication, topics such as regulation, programme development, responsible units, finance, equipment etc. are dealt with under one heading. Chapter 4 outlines training activities directed at managers offered by the public and private sector. Special attention has been paid to training for small and medium-sized enterprises managers. Chapter 5 outlines the training and recruitment of teachers, managers and other personnel working at vocational and technical education schools and institutions. Chapter 6 gives the research-and-development studies conducted in the field of vocational and technical education. Chapter 7 deals with international cooperation on vocational and technical education and projects financed under bilateral or multilateral agreements. The projects undertaken in this respect are not limited to the ones explained in the report; however, the most prominent are given. (DIPF/Orig.).
