Abstract	This contribution is part of a comprehensive study and refers only to a particular region of Europe. Research and interviews were applied to a number of institutions, experienced in e-Learning and using Learning Management Systems (LMS) to support their e-courses provisions and e- Learning structures. A total of 21 interviews were carried out all over the respective countries: Portugal, Spain, Italy, France and Greece. A Southern Europe overview puts in evidence the region's statistical figures in terms of Internet users in comparison to other countries and regions. The authors present the results of their interviews carried out in selected institutions. In total there are 561 online courses that are using 16 LMS systems. Fifty percent of the investigated institutions have less than 15 courses online. A section of this article provides information on the applied research methodology followed by case studies about e-learning in the countries concerned. (DIPF/Ba.).
