| Abstract | This paper aims to address issues relating to the means by which the practice of educational management can be enhanced through reference to research from fields outside the domain of everyday practice and local, regional and national politics. The authors take the view that leadership is a creative phenomenon and refer to the role of leader as an educator. The researchers underline that there are situations in which even those leaders considered to be the best are unable to make an overnight success. The creative process is one which requires constant revision in order to ensure that the external forces - both cognitive and affective - do not overcome the internal desire for an improvement for all.- This contribution was submitted by the authors as a paper for the 25th ATEE Annual Conference in Barcelona 2000.
