Abstract | In this article the authors highlight the constant fabrication of racial identity or 'racial simulation' in the United States through the production of 'the pure space of racial origin and resentment'. The latter is linked to the process of defining one's identity through the negation of the other. Using Nietzsche's ideas on identity-formation and resentment, the authors show the ethnocentric nature of key discourses in pedagogy and popular culture: the discourses of racial origin, nation, popular memory and popular history, and the language of the media culture.
