Abstract	What do we know about transitions in school life as critical incidents for young people? This question is focussed in the research project "Young People Meet the Lower Secondary School" a longitudinal comparative case study of two school classes in Sweden, carried out with an interpretive approach and a relational interpretation perspective. In this paper some preliminary findings are presented, where the transition to the lower secondary school functions as an example of the phenomena. The purpose of this paper is to try to deepen our understanding of the phenomenon, transitions in school life as critical incidents for young people. The analyses are mainly based on a data material (62 students, age-group 12-13), collected with qualitative research interviews, influenced by the life-history tradition. (DIPF/orig.).
