| Abstract | The article is about the typical features of the relationship among general education, vocational training and labour. The author underlines that the prestige of vocational training has witnessed a spectacular increase in Hungary over the last decade. New priorities of the present day include not only openness but also the ability to adapt to the globalizing world and to acquire the knowledge which enables people to meet new challenges more effectively. Therefore the link between school and employment ist not only theoretically. "The direct effects of the economy are becoming more and more pressing, especially in the vocational training of young people." The development of a number of successful educational programmes over the past few years and among them the long-term development programme which has been approved since 1996, are particularly important in this context.
