| Abstract | This article (deals with) the relative levels of support for democracy and a market economy - the new political and economic order - among three groups in post-communist Poland: students aged 13-14 and corresponding "cohorts" of teachers and parents. In comparing political and economic orientations, (the authors) concentrate on intergenerational differences rather than intraschool or intrafamiliar processes of political socialization. ... In (their) analysis of support for the new economic order (they) focus on key features of market capitalism such as tolerance for marked income disparities, use of material incentives to promote and reward educational attaintment, and reliance on individual initiative and responsibility for one's own well-beeing. ... (Then they investigate) the extent to which students, teachers and parents agree with these core elements of democracy and market economy, and the degree to which the three groups differ in terms of their political and economic orientations.
