Abstract | Many Eastern European countries regard the United Kingdom as a model for school development at a time when that model is coming under increased censure at home. It is an irony that these countries have rejected centralised, authoritarian political systems and dirigiste governments yet at the same time are striving to emulate a UK system which itself is authoritarian, dirigiste, centralised, coercive and caught up in the discourse of control. This paper sets out some characteristics of that authoritarianism and suggests an alternative educational model of centralised governmental involvement in education. (DIPF/Text uebernommen). |
