Abstract	Museumspädagogik ist eine Subdisziplin der Erziehungswissenschaft und ein anerkanntes pädagogisches Handlungsfeld, das in der Erziehungswissenschaft und insbesondere in der erziehungswissenschaftlichen empirischen Forschung allerdings wenig Beachtung findet. Systematische, professionstheoretische Untersuchungen sowie belastbare empirische Befunde zu diesem, von der Öffentlichkeit stark nachgefragten, pädagogischen Angebot, sind selten und stellen nach wie vor ein Desiderat erziehungswissenschaftlicher Forschung dar. Die vorliegende Untersuchung leistet erstmals eine systematische, theoretische Analyse museumspädagogischer Professionalität sowie eine iterativ angelegte, empirische Rekonstruktion des professionellen museumspädagogischen Handelns in Kunstmuseen. Die museumspädagogische Praxis wird aus professionstheoretischer Perspektive analysiert um den Grad, Status und die Qualität der Professionalisierung museumspädagogischen Handelns (in Kunstmuseen) zu erschließen. Unter Anwendung einer Qualitativen Inhaltsanalyse werden Interviews eines bundesweiten Samples museumspädagogischer Fachkräfte ausgewertet. Ziel dieses Vorgehens ist nicht nur die Erschließung von notwendigen Befunden zum Gegenstand "professionelles museumspädagogisches Handeln" sondern auch die Konstruktion eines modular aufgebauten Instrumentariums zur professionstheoretischen Erforschung auch anderer Subdisziplinen der Erziehungswissenschaft, wie der Sozialpädagogik oder der Weiterbildung. Museum Education is a sub-discipline of Educational Science and a recognised field of educational action which, however, is admittedly widely ignored both in Educational Science and in particular in the educational science-related empirical research. Any methodical, profession-theoretical studies as well as reliable empirical findings are few and far between and still are a research desideratum of Educational Science. This study for the first time provides a systematic theoretical analysis of professionalism in Museum Education as well as an iterative and empirical reconstruction of professional action in Museum Education as performed in art museums. Practical Museum Education is analysed from a perspective of professional theory in order to reveal the degree, status and the quality of professionalisation of Museum Education-related action (in art museums). Applying a qualitative content analysis, interviews of a nation-wide sample of experts in Museum Education are evaluated. This process not only aims at developing the necessary findings on the subject matter "Professional Action in Museum Education", but also at building a modular set of instruments for the profession-theoretical research of other sub-disciplines of Educational Science as well, such as Social Pedagogy or Continuing Education.
