Abstract | The job of a teacher-librarian is to connect all students to reading, writing, information, and literacy in all its wonderful forms. A writing challenge is a teacher-librarian's chance to encourage students to inform and entertain the community in an introspective and artistic manner. A school-wide challenge to write is a chance most students have been waiting to tell the community something they are experts in or would be excited to make up a creative story. The authors did a writing challenge with the Flynn 500 at the Leonard R. Flynn Elementary School of Inner San Francisco, with 460 students. There are many ways to do this kind of challenge. This article presents a guide for a teacher-librarian to make his/her own. (Contains 2 figures.) (ERIC). |
