Abstract | Political advocacy continues to gain ground in the state of Washington after the landmark Washington state legislative support of emergency funding ($4.09 million) for library media centers during the 2008 legislative session. This stepped-up political advocacy is due to the efforts of the Washington Library Media Association Advocacy members (WLMA) and the Washington Coalition for School Libraries and Information Technology (WCSLit), founded by the Spokane Moms, whose efforts have helped both organizations make significant progress by employing multiple strategies. One of the most successful components of the recent legislative actions for Washington school library programs is what has come to be termed the Campaign of Gratitude. From the beginning, appreciation and heartfelt gratitude has been expressed in a multitude of ways to those in the legislature and other political arenas who have advocated for library media centers, signed on as supporters, and otherwise helped the cause.
