| Abstract | To a large extent, social economic and sociocultural processes in a civilized society are determined by the level of development of the sphere of the intellect (science, education, culture, and the arts), and in particular the system of science and education. In the Republic of Armenia, 14.8 percent of all people employed in the economy were working in that sphere in 1990, compared with 13.4 percent in 2002. Within this group, for the two years, 2.8 percent were working in science and science services in 1990 compared with 1.2 percent in 2002, and 12.0 percent were working in the spheres of education, culture, and the arts in 1990 compared with 12.4 percent in 2002.
