Abstract | Discusses the effect of recent developments (particularly globalization and advances in technology) on the production and perception of language, and on translation and the job profile of translators. Two conflicting forces of "globalism" and "tribalism" are presented and set off against the sociological concept of cultural identity. English in the world as a lingua franca is discussed. Compares four authentic translation assignments. (Author/VWL) |
